HOORAY!!!Things To Be Doing In YOUR Garden This August…IN THE VEGGIE GARDEN…Plant… beetroot, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflowers, onions, parsnip, peas, radish, shallots, silver beet, spinach and early lettuce. Plant… herbs in the garden, containers or baskets. Try the Gardman Pop-up planter, it's handy and easy to use in any situation.Sprout… seed potatoes in trays in preparation for planting or plant already sprouted potatoes in the garden. Divide… and plant rhubarb Spray… broad beans, brassicas and other seedlings with a broad-spectrum fungicide to control leaf spot and fungal diseases. Try Fungus Fighter or Champ DP. Cultivate with a hoe… among plants to aerate the soil. Side dress with Kings General Garden Fertiliser. Feed… the garden plants with Kings Garden Booster and pots and hanging baskets with Kings Pot Recharger. Both are highly effective and complete plant foods bringing professional results to your garden and containers. ![]() TREES AND SHRUBS…Continue planting… trees and shrubs. Prepare the soil for all planting with Kings Organic Compost, Gypsum Soil Life, Neem Tree Granules and Kings Garden Booster.Spray… roses and other deciduous trees and shrubs with Yates Champ DP and Yates Conqueror Spraying Oil. Alternating between Shield and Super Shield for pest and fungal disease control on roses prevents resistance to either product. Super Shield is systemic so best for the dryer summer months, Shield is a contact spray so best for cooler moister months. For targeted clean up of insect infestations use Mavrik or Confidor. ![]() Prune… out spindly growth on hydrangeas leaving only strong shoots. Cut the strong stems back to 3 leaf nodes from the base. IN THE FRUIT GARDEN... Spray… pip and stone trees with Yates Champ DP and Conqueror Spraying Oil for fungus and scale control. During flower bloom, spray with bravo. Complete… fruit tree planting and feed new and existing trees with Kings Citrus Tree Fertiliser. Plant… Strawberries, in store and ready for immediate planting for juicy summer crops. Plant in the garden or containers with Tui Strawberry Mix and feed with Strawberry food. Add… Neem Tree Granules to the soil in the bottom of the planting hole when planting all trees and shrubs. These granules release neem oil that is absorbed by the plant roots and helps protect these plants against pests. Prune… last season’s growth from berry canes and spray with Champ DP for fungus control. If fruit trees and grapes are not yet pruned, prune as soon as possible. Also prune passion fruit and feijoa. Feijoa thrive on a very hard prune every 3-5 years to encourage new fresh growth. LAWNS, POTS AND GENERAL THINGS…Prepare… new lawns. Feed existing lawns with Scott’s Lawn Builder and treat moss with Yates Moss Killer & Fertiliser. Start spraying for prickle weed (Onehunga Weed) as the weather warms and plants start to grow. Yates Prickle Weed Killer kills Onehunga weed and other lawn weeds including thistles, plantains, daisies, cape daisy and pennycress. It is a non-hormonal weedkiller with no activity against grass species. Onehunga weed must be sprayed before the buds and flowers are produced for effective control. ![]() Re-pot… and trim indoor plants. Once every 1-2 years replace the soil around your containerised plants and always use new Container Mix when planting new plants in your containers. If you cannot do this then use Kings Pot Recharger every 3-4 months. Add Saturaid to your pots every 6 months to give even water saturation through the whole container.TRUSTED PRODUCTS TO USE IN AUGUST…Yates Baysol Slugs and Snails Killer… One application lasts 2-4weeks and even remains active in wet weather.
