Comments from some our international sabbaticals:
As someone who had grown up in my family’s garden centre I was looking for an opportunity to expand my knowledge base and get an international take on the industry. I first heard about King’s Plant Barn from a trusted international marketer. He said if I was looking to work at a garden centre in New Zealand, King’s was the only place to be.
I arrived in September and quickly recognised a number of unique aspects that made King’s such a well respected place. The staff they employ are passionate and extremely helpful and experienced. King’s also brings in the best consultants and specialists to help improve all aspects of the customer and employee experience. The commitment to staff improvement was obvious in the weekly staff training sessions where I learnt many new concepts on customer service and plant identification.
I was able to expand my knowledge and grow as a professional through my experience. I also found I had plenty of time to travel and visit many of New Zealand’s most breathtaking landscapes. The friendships and bonds I created at King’s will stay with me forever and I appreciate all that the great staff on location did for me.
I know that if you are selected for this opportunity, it will grow you as a person and will a memorable employment experience.

Howick Branch.

Having joined Kings Plant Barn in August of last year, I have had an awesome experience working with committed colleagues, delivering a great service and offering advice to our customers.
Either helping them succeed with growing fruit and veggies, or generally giving new ideas to what plants would work best for them in their own gardens.
If you are passionate about passing on your horticultural knowledge and helping others you will love working for Kings!
It has also given me the opportunity to learn more about New Zealand natives and tropical plants to give me a broader knowledge within horticulture.
Not only this, I for sure have not missed the UK's shivering -14 degrees over the winter and have had the opportunity to explore truly amazing coastal sites and have taken to the New Zealand way of life!

My work placement at Kings Plant Barn Forrest Hill branch has been challenging yet enjoyable. I have liked expanding my knowledge about plants, learning about New Zealand products and gardening techniques/methods Kiwi style.
The staff have made me feel most welcome and been helpful in teaching me the job and how best to advise/help customers.
Thank-you for the opportunity to work for Kings, it has enabled me to stay in Auckland and travel some of New Zealand. Overall it has been a wonderful experience.
Sue Preston.
