To Grow Successful Vireyas...

Planted in pots or in the ground, they are happiest when surrounded by a free-draining, open mix. Incorporate bark, punga fibre or Hauraki Peat in the soil surrounding the plant. Don’t plant vireyas deep and don’t plant in a hole with poor drainage. Raise the bed if drainage is a problem, or grow your vireya in a pot in the ground, where its roots are contained, Punga pots are excellent for this. You will have to re-pot every now and then, and you will need to lift the pot to cut back root competition. Do not over-pot, graduating the pot up in size as the plant grows gives best results, and make sure the pot has excellent drainage.
Generally the sunnier the position you plant your Vireyas in the more compact the plant will be.

Pruning and Feeding...vireya_gilded_sunrise_lge.jpg

Only prune healthy plants. To prevent vireyas from being leggy prune regularly and hard when young. They must look vigorous when you prune. If your plant IS tall and leggy give it a good feed and when it starts to flush with growth prune back hard to give good shape.
We recomend feeding with Osmocote water soluble nutrient granules every 4 months, with a foliar feed of Nitrosol or Kings Liquid Fast Food over spring and summer. (Pictured right V. Guilded Sunrise)
