Herb of the Month: Horseradish


While they aren't a looker, their fabulous flavour should allow you to get past this. The peppery root of this member of the mustard family can be used in a variety of delicious ways. And it's healthy! Many even believe that it helps with weight loss, digestion, reducing blood pressure and improving heart health.


How to Plant

Plant in full sun, in free-draining soil rich in organic matter.
Horseradish is a perennial. Once established you can simply divide up the roots when you harvest and replant some larger stems. 


A surprisingly versatile veggie, just don't overdo it. Great with meat, in salads, in sauces and in dressings. 
One of our favourites is a mustardy sauce, perfect with meat and cheese dishes. Simply combine 20-25cm of ground roots with 1 tsp vinegar, 2 tsp water and a pinch of salt.
