December is a great month in the garden. The cold is behind us and there’s still time to get flowers and veggies in and the garden tidied up before Christmas. Don’t forget to keep on top of the weeds and keep your garden watered as the weather warms up.
Summer Veggies
Plant our large grade tomatoes, capsicums, chillies, and eggplants now for an instant, delicious and productive garden.
Planting
Stagger your planting so that you can harvest over a longer period of time. There's still time to plant all your summer veggies, including: tomatoes, courgettes, chillies, beans, peppers, and basil. Plant lettuce, coriander and parsley in part shade, and water them regularly, to help prevent bolting (going-to-seed).
Citrus
Citrus trees can be planted right through summer. Just make sure that you keep plants well watered.
To add instant zest to your summer, plant a large-grade lemon or lime that is already flowering.
Passionfruit
A must for every Kiwi garden! Choose a warm sunny fence to plant up against. As they grow, open them up occassionally to increase airflow and reduce the chance of diseases.
Subtropical Fruit
Plant your subtropical fruit, such as natal plums, paw paws, guavas, pepino, and tamarillos. For best results add compost and sheep pellets when planting and keep well watered.
Roses
We’ve still got a huge range of blooming gorgeous roses instore. Make sure you keep them well watered, especially while they are getting established.
Just remember, watering deeply less often is more effective than a light wartering daily.
