"Crimson Crumble" is a breakthrough in rhubarb breeding. This stunning bright, almost luminous red variety is so red that the colour extends to the veins in the leaves, and even a pink coloration in the internal flesh. Easy to grow and disease free in a wide range of climates. It is a vigorous grower producing all year round and is a chef's favourite.
Growing rhubarb in New Zealand is very easy. Rhubarb is one of a small group of perennial vegetables.
It grows best in partial shade in a cool to warm climate.
They do need plenty of food and water. Remove the flower heads before they open. They are very tough to kill once established.
This variety is slighlty bigger, evergreen with their stems staying red when cooked.
Rhubarb is incredibly versatile with many culinary uses. Try it in cakes and desserts, pastries, jams, pickles, conserves, sauces and, of course, crumbles!
