Also known as Ice-cream bean due to their delicious flavour. These gorgeous and relatively hardy draping trees produce masses of large brown seed pods. Inside the pods are overgrown beans and an edible candy floss-like white pulp. Acts as a nitrogen fixer. Harvest seed pods in autumn and winter.
Grows 6-8m high.
Full sun, though they will tolerate some shade. Will grow in poorer soils and will tolerate some water logging and droughts.
Mix in compost and sheep pellets with the top soil when planting. Protect from frosts.
Inga beans will fix nitrogen into the soil in most conditions. Some feeding may be needed if you are growing in water logged conditions.
Minimal pruning required. Prune after fruiting to maintain desired shape or to remove dead or damaged branches.
