In Holland these glorious flowers were once so sought after that their bulbs were briefly used as a de facto currency. The flowers are highly valued as a cut flower and are easy to grow in well drained, sunny positions. However, it sadly isn't quite cold enough here for them to perennialise naturally. So to ensure that you get blooms every year either plant new bulbs annually, or dig the bulbs up each year, put them into a paper bag, and then leave them inside your fridgge for 4-6 weeks before replanting.
Plant from the bulbs in April-May in well prepared soil, 10-15cm apart and to a depth of 6-8cm.
