Prepare
Cacti are great for beginners or gardeners who are just starting out. Most of these plants will thrive in dry conditions, but make sure you have a good sunny spot for them to thrive in - being it in pots or in the garden. Soil

Otherwise you can add coarse sand or fine pumice to ordinary potting mix for added drainage.. DO NOT plant cacti in mixes that contain water storage crystals as it can become too damp and could root rot.

When repotting, use a thick rag or a pair of old jeans to wrap the cacti up into to save getting thorns or spikes in your hands and gloves. If your cacti is large, get a pot that is slightly smaller than the plant to place it upside down into before replanting it - this can make it easier to move.

Can I kill my cacti with too little water?
Being from dessert regions Cacti can be killed by too much water. Always allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again and never allow pots to sit in water. If in the ground the soil must drain well.
Can I spray my cacti with water?
Once in a while won't hurt the cacti, but too much and the plant will develop rot.
