Aloe vera can be planted anytime of the year.

Prepare

Position

If growing indoors Aloe vera is best grown in a warm, brightly lit room, but out of direct midday sun. When grown outdoors plant in a hot sunny position either in the ground or in a pot.

Soil

When planting into the ground aloe likes a very free draining soil. If the soil is heavy or clay, improve drainage by adding Gypsum Clay Breaker, Kings Organic Compost and some pumice mixed into the soil. When planting in containers, use Yates Cacti and Succulent Mix.

Plant

Gently tap the plant out of its pot. Dig a hole twice the depth and width of the plants root ball. Mix together Kings Compost into your existing soil. Back fill the hole with this soil, so that when planted the top of the plant’s roots sit level with the surrounding ground. Firm the soil down gently and water in well with Aquaticus Garden Booster

Care

Watering

Aloe vera is a hardy succulent and thrives in hot and dry conditions. Water once a week during the hotter dry months of the year. No water should be needed during winter or when it has rained.

Feeding

Liquid feed every month with Aquaticus Garden Booster, from Spring through to the end of Autumn, this encourages root growth and a healthy immune system. Monthly applications of Kings Sheep Pellets will help with soil conditioning and plant health.

Protecting

Aloe vera can get attacked by aphids, mealy bug, scale and snails. Protect against slug and snails by applying regular applications of Quash.

Spraying

If insects are a problem spray with Groventive Systemic Insecticide as per the instructions on the bottle.

Pruning

The only pruning required would be to remove any old browning leaves.

Tip

When using sprays, chemicals or fertilisers always read the label and follow instructions carefully. Dilute concentrated products with water as per the instructions. Spray in the evening to avoid harming beneficial insects.
