Position

Hoyas thrive best in a well lit position but out of direct sunlight. Being a tropical plant, Hoyas thrive in a warm and moist, humid environment.

Soil

Hoya likes a free draining soil so plant into Kings House Plant Mix.

Plant

Hoyas like to be snug in their pots, plants that are a bit root-bound will flower more prolifically than those that are not. They only need to be repotted once every 2-3 years.

Care

Watering

Hoyas do not like the soil to be wet. Allow the top half of the soil to dry out before watering again with water at room temperature. Never allow the plant to sit in water.

Feeding

Hoyas should be fertilised monthly feed with Kings Liquid House Plant Food.

Spraying

Hoya are vulnerable to sap-sucking pests like aphids, mealybugs, and spider mites. Spray with Groventive Garden to keep these under control. Hoya can be troubled with Fungal conditions, which can be treated by spraying with Kiwicare Organic Super Sulphur. In addition to this allow plenty of air circulation around your plants and do not over water.

Pruning

Hoya do not generally need pruning.

General Care

When using sprays, chemicals or fertilisers always read the label and follow the instructions. Apply sprays in the evening to avoid harming beneficial insects.

Beginner Tip

Misting your Hoya with water at room temperature will help increase humidity. Take care not to mist the flowers.

Expert Tip

Some hoyas can take a few years before blooming, but once they do, they should keep flowering every year. Once bloomed, don't deadhead the flowers as future blooms will grow from the spurs. Good light is your best bet to encourage flowering.
